* The name of this blog was taken from a case I read in first year Torts, Mulloy v. Hop Sang. In it a doctor had cut off the hand of a "Chinaman" without informing the patient. The judge awarded $50 since the Chinaman, while Chinese, was of average intelligence, and therefore would have understood the doctor's diagnosis.

This was all over the Internet (ok Digg and lots of blogs) about a month ago - apparently it was published in a small town newspaper in Alaska (the Peninsula Clarion or some such). It certainly got lots of heated reaction - but I maintain it's a hoax. No one can be so ignorant, right? It looks like Alice's own neighbours are a little more enlightened: http://www.peninsulaclarion.com/stories/022207/letters_20070222007.shtml
I don't think it's a hoax, or if it is I don't think it's outside of the realm of possibility. There are definitely people who believe that America is a "Christian Nation." And the letter directly below it seems to be about fishing a river, consequences be damned.
I was half-kidding about the hoax thing =)
And Scotland: drinking beer, traveling around Europe on the cheap flights, and occasionally going to class (on full year exchange in Edinburgh). Can't say it sucks!
